Dr Nina Kajiji

Dr. Nina Kajiji, University of Rhode Island, USA

Nina Kajiji is an adjunct associate professor in the Computer Science and Statistics Department at the University of Rhode Island. She has been conferred the title of Accredited Professional Statistician™ from the American Statistical Association. Her principal research interests are in the fields of applied optimization, volatility modeling, and artificial intelligence. Her current research studies routinely use enhanced univariate and multi-variate neural networks as well as optimization methods such as mixed-integer non-linear goal-programming algorithms. Application fields include: socially responsible investing, neuroscience-based modeling for the development of smart cities, neuroeconomics-based analysis of intra-day municipal bond yield curves, and obtaining complex educational assessment elasticity metrics. Recently, her research interests have expanded to include “big data” analytics featuring both visualization and high-performance computing to assist in complex data mining. Besides being actively involved in research, she is also the co-owner of The NKD Group, Inc. (www.NKD-Group.com) a financial engineering and software development firm. The firm produces web-enabled analytical and decision-making software. Research models using these software products have been presented to capital market professionals and other researchers in Italy, India, Thailand, South Africa, Lithuania, Tunisia, Germany, Canada, and Turkey.

Dr. Kajiji’s academic research has been published in: Canadian Journal of Operational Research and Information Processing (INFOR), Operational Research, The African Finance Journal, The Journal of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Journal of Applied Operational Research, and recently in the International Transactions on Operational Research. Additionally, she has contributed chapters to, Handbook of Financial Engineering, and Recent Advances in Computational Finance. Other publications include 9 years (2000-2008) of Information Works! the official State Report Card that measures Rhode Island schools for change. This was a yearly publication that was jointly produced by the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The publication won the 2008 Outstanding Publications Competition of the American Education Research Association. She has also co-authored an e-book, Applied Risk Management: Derivatives, Neuroeconomics, and Automated Trading.

When not actively working, her personal interests center on container gardening and volunteering with non-profit organizations that promote girl education across the K-12 population. For her volunteer work, Nina has been awarded The President’s Volunteer Service Award (Gold Level) from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
