Prof. Peter Schwarz

Peter Schwarz is a Professor of Economics at UNC Charlotte. He has a forthcoming text on Energy Economics scheduled for publication by Routledge in September 2017.

He is an Associate with the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) and is also affiliated with doctoral programs in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems (INES) and Public Policy (PPOL). Within the EPIC Center, he is in the Energy Markets and the Energy and Environment clusters. He team-teaches a course to engineering and MBA students on Energy Markets.

His research addresses energy and environment issues, including electricity pricing research done in conjunction with Duke Energy Corporation. He has received grants from the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, and has lectured in Israel and China (mainland and Taiwan) on energy and environmental topics. He has several recent publications on developing customer baselines for residential consumers participating in demand reduction programs, including publications in IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications (Jan.-Feb. 2017) and Electric Power Systems Research (August, 2016 and June, 2016). In addition to his ongoing research in this area, he is currently investigating the effect of electricity prices on the purchase of ENERGY STAR appliances and carbon emissions, determinants of opposition by states to the Clean Power Plan, and projected carbon emissions in China by 2030. He also has research examining the effects of brownfields on nearby property values published in Contemporary Economic Policy in January 2016. He also published a paper on the potential for energy savings from implementing integrated water management in the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management in December 2015. He has earlier publications in such journals as the Journal of Regulatory Economics, The Energy Journal, the Rand Journal of Economics, the Southern Economic Journal, Economic Inquiry, and the American Economic Review.
